National Night Out

Community Engagement

Thank you to everyone who made National Night Out 2019 a success!

The National Night Out
program started in the 1980's to promote safer, better neighborhoods in communities and highlight the alliance between citizens and law enforcement to achieve that goal.  Events are held nationwide on the first Tuesday in August.

In 2018, the Community Services Bureau lead Kentwood’s 35th Annual National Night Out.  As a Department, we anxiously look forward to this fun and exciting event every year.  National Night Out is an extension of the Neighborhood Watch program, which encourages neighbors to gather together, meet with community leaders, as well as Police and Fire Department personnel.  It is a national effort that promotes community interaction and partnerships.  It is crucial in developing local anti-crime efforts, strengthening neighborhood spirit and bridging the gap between the police and community. We are very thankful for all the various communities in Kentwood for doing their part in keeping our city a wonderful community in which to live, work, and play.  Officers attended various neighborhood gatherings last year which had a fantastic turn out from the community. We look forward to attending even more parties on August 6th! We hope to see you at Woodland Mall from 3 - 5 pm to kick off the event.  Thank you very much to all the community members and residential communities who help in making this event such a success!
