Parks Millage Updates

KENTWOOD PARKS, TRAILS AND RECREATIONAL IMPROVEMENTS

Thank you, Kentwood voters! Your approval of a dedicated permanent millage will provide funding to improve the City’s parks, trails and recreational facilities and programming. This new millage will be levied starting July 1, 2023.

Funding will be used for needed repairs, improvements, operations and maintenance of these invaluable amenities and services. As part of our commitment to contribute funds from other public and private sources, we are also applying for grants to make our tax dollars go further for needed improvements.

Investment Plans
To view the investment plan and estimated timeline for each park, click on the button below or click on the Park Projects link in the side navigation. Visit these pages often to track the progress of the millage investment plan. More information on improvements and project timelines* will be added to this page as plans are finalized and projects are bid out. Updates on millage-funded projects will also be shared on the City’s Facebook pages – City of Kentwood and City of Kentwood Parks and Recreation Department – and in our monthly eNewsletter.

*Please note: Project timelines are dependent on weather and supply chain/inflation circumstances. Project plans are subject to change as more in-depth design and construction planning is completed.

MULTIGENERATIONAL COMMUNITY CENTER

As part of the 2022 voter-approved parks millage, we’re building a multigenerational community center near City Hall, Fire Station 1 and the Kentwood Justice Center. This building will serve as a gathering space for the community and a hub for many of our parks and recreation activities.

The planning process for this building is underway. City staff have been hard at work touring existing facilities and identifying community priorities for this exciting space. We are in the early stages of design for this project.

Architect

The designer for this project is Spark43 Architects. After accepting proposals from several firms, we selected Spark43 because of its proven success in recreation designs and commitment to collaborating with us and residents to create a space that represents our community. We are excited to partner with Spark43 on this important community space, which will be used for generations to come.

For more information about Spark43, please visit spark43arch.com.

Community Input

Spark43 has been active in the community connecting with residents about what they want to see in this new building.
