Law Day 2023

The 62-B District Court is inviting community members of all ages to celebrate Law Day 2023. This year's theme is Cornerstones of Democracy: Civics, Civility and Collaboration.

The event will feature refreshments, networking opportunities, a panel discussion and more. Panelists will include:

  • Amanda Sterkenburg, Chief Judge, 62-B District Court
  • Stephen Kepley, Mayor, City of Kentwood
  • Ron Draayer, 2nd Ward City Commissioner, City of Kentwood
  • Kourtney Stone, Assistant Prosecutor, Kent County
  • Justin McCarthy, Defense Attorney, Kent County Office of the Defender

The panel will be moderated by Michele White, Court Administrator/Magistrate, 62-B District Court. Panelists will take questions from event participants and discuss rebuilding trust in our institutions, respect for one another and our willingness to collaborate to address the challenges that face our country.

Students wishing to participate in the event will also have an opportunity to create a short video, poem, art piece or written question that relates to this year’s theme that may be presented to the panel as a discussion topic. Entries will be displayed in the courthouse during the Law Day celebration.

To submit an entry, fill out the registration form or drop off your submission in-person at the Kentwood Justice Center, 4740 Walma Ave., 8-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Submissions are due by April 17.
